ASHP: ASHP is a national professional organization of 30,000 members that represents pharmacists who practice in settings such as hospitals, health maintenance organizations, long-term care facilities, home care and other components of health care systems. ASHP, which has a long history of medication-error prevention efforts, believes that the mission of pharmacists is to help people make the best use of their medications. Assisting pharmacists in fulfilling this mission is ASHP’s primary objective.
MSHP: The Maryland Society of Health-System Pharmacists consists of practitioners of health-system pharmacy, technicians, students, and other MSHP members. MSHP enables the health-system pharmacy community to improve patient outcomes by supporting education, research, advocacy, development, and integration of pharmacy practitioners as integral members of the health care team.
SSHP: University of Maryland School of Pharmacy Student Society of Health-System Pharmacy: Our mission is to promote awareness of pharmacists, student pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians who serve as patient care providers on healthcare teams in acute and ambulatory settings; provide information to pharmacy students about career directions in and credentials needed for pharmacy patient care in acute and ambulatory settings; and encourage membership and participation in the ASHP and the MSHP. The SSHP encourages interaction among professional organizations in the School of Pharmacy and with other professional schools on the University of Maryland Baltimore campus. In addition, the SSHP performs outreach to the community through health fairs like Community Fest and volunteering at the Hope Lodge.
